Homebody - Senior Thesis

This body of work is the culmination of two years of work, bringing together both painting and graphic design into a single body of work that explores themes of protection, instinct, and the boundaries between public and private space. It explores different response mechanisms in the search for protection and how humans respond by adopting instinctual behaviors such as camouflage, territoriality, and the fight-or-flight response. The work examines these behaviors within states of comfort and threat, within public and private spaces, and how danger can intrude into our spheres of safety.

Conceptualizing

:

The book incorporates pattern-making taken from elements of the paintings in the exhibition, along with a catalog of the historical and personal references that informed the work. It was produced as a handcrafted hardcover book, bound in bookcloth that matches the color of the sculpture Home, physically tying the publication to the installation to combine my two loves of graphic design and painting.
